Cicero came into their Wednesday night game looking to split the 2-game series with Syracuse Miller, who won the first game 4-3.

Cicero was also intent on working out at least 3 of their pitchers and 3 catchers ahead of fall tournaments. Starting on the mound for Cicero was Daniel Capp, making his first game appearance as a pitcher since 2018.

Capp, who normally plays catcher, pushed through 3 innings and 15 batters. He gave up 6 hits (2 on errors), 1 walk, and 3 runs while striking out 4. Capp was replaced by Kenton Cochran (who recently returned to play) in the 4th inning. Cochran had a rough start, giving up 5 hits and 5 runs with 2 strike outs in the inning. He got things under control in the 5th, with one hit, 1 walk and 3 strike outs. He gave up 2 more runs off of 2 hits to end the 6th inning. Nicholas Capece started the 7th inning, where he quickly retired the side in order.

The game was close until the 4th inning and Cicero found themselves down 10-2 at the top of the 6th. Cicero left several runners on base during the game. An exciting rally at the end of the game included multiple hits, walks and stolen bases that put Cicero down 10-5. With bases loaded and 2 outs, Syracuse made a pitching change about 10 minutes before the stadium lights were set to turn off at 10:45pm. Cicero’s surge ran out minutes later with a put-out at first base to end the game.
