Cicero came into Monday night’s game at Sunnycrest Park hungry for a win, and looking to correct some of the issues that cost them their first 2 games of the season.
Facing Chiodo’s 14u squad, Cicero started out strong, racking up 5 runs. The runs included Jacob Calabria, Nicholas Capece, Alex Sanes-Carmona, Johnny Wozniczka and Connnor Downer. Multiple hits came from Calabria (1b) and Wozniczka (2b), while 9 walks and 3 HBP put the rest of the team on base.
Cicero brought in another run in the 2nd inning (Wozniczka) and 2 more in the 3rd (Calabria and Sanes-Carmon) to get to 8 runs.
Cicero never lost the lead, but Chiodo 14u did tie it up briefly in the 2nd inning at 5-5.
Cicero put a lot of balls into play, with every player getting either a hit or advancing runners in a game where Chiodo gave up a lot of walks.
Multiple bases were stolen by Calabria, Capece, Sanes-Carmon, Wozniczka, Downer, Smith, Pearce and Alysa Mooney.
Chiodo was able to get 3 hits on the day, but the 10 walks they were given kept them in the game until the very end.
Pitchers for Cicero included Alex Sanes-Carmona and Conor Downer.
MVP on the night for Cicero was Wozniczka.
