Cicero was victorious over Fayetteville-Manlius, 6-3, in their indoor season finale in Saturday night’s late game in the Sports Center 481 Arena.

Cicero opened up scoring in the first inning, when a series of walks brought in a run, followed by a triple by Lucas Thelen.

Thelen went on to go 3/3 on the night, including two triples, which helped earn him the MVP on the night.

After Fayetteville-Manlius scored one run in the top of the second, Cicero answered with one of their own. Avery Pankow hit a single to start off the 2nd inning and came in on a double by Michael Mooney.

Fayetteville-Manlius scored when Jack Aroe singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run. Cicero then answered when they scored one run on a stolen base.

Cicero started to pull away with one run in the third inning when Avery Pankow grounded out, scoring one run.

Nicholas Capece scored the final run of the game, stealing 2-bases following his single to right field and then coming in on Alex Smith’s single just before time expired.

Daniel Capp led Cicero with three stolen bases, as the team ran wild on the base paths with 17 stolen bases.

Some of the highlights of the night on defense included a tag play at 3rd base by Jayden Wilmot on the throw from Avery Pankow. Wilmot also made a smart play at catcher, running an aggressive runner back to 3rd base to save the run. Fly balls and line drives were caught by Nicholas Capece, Sean Bombard, Alex Smith and Avery Pankow. Michael Mooney also made some tough catches at first base, as well as a solo tag play.

Nicholas Capece was the winning pitcher for Cicero. He lasted three innings, allowing four hits and three runs while striking out six. Carson Lear made his pitching debut in the 4th, giving up 1 run on 2 hits in the inning. Alex Smith closed out the game, walking one and striking out 2.

This was the final game of the indoor season for this Cicero squad, who finished in 3rd place with a record of 3-2-1.
