Rattlers 11U edged out Summa by the score of 16-10 on Wednesday at Van Duyn Elementary School.
Ryan Hooser drove in five runs on four hits to lead the Rattlers. Hooser doubled in the third scoring two, doubled in the second scoring one, singled in the fourth scoring one, and walked in the fifth scoring one.
Both offenses were strong at the plate as Rattlers collected eight hits and Summa eight in the high-scoring affair.
A single put Summa 11u on the board in the top of the first.
Eli Greer hit into a fielder’s choice, which helped Rattlers tie the game at one in the bottom of the first.
In the top of the second inning, Summa went back into the lead after a 2 singles and a double scored one run. A double-play got the Rattlers out of the inning.
Rattlers flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the second, scoring six runs on three hits to take the lead, 7-5. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Mason Vangel that drove in three.
Rattlers made the score 10-6 in the bottom of the third after Hooser doubled, scoring two runs, Eli Greer grounded out, scoring one run, and an error scored one run.
Rattlers scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning as TJ Vulcano, Hooser, Dean Capece, Greer and Vangel all scored.
Max Balamut earned the win for Rattlers. The hurler gave up five hits and five runs (three earned) over two innings, striking out three and walking two. Mason Vangel collected the save. Ryan Hooser appeared in relief for Rattlers.
Dean Capece collected two hits for the Rattlers in three at bats. TJ Vulcano and Seth MCIlroy led the team with three walks each. Ryan Hooser and Dean Capece each stole multiple bases for Rattlers.
MVP in this game was Mason Vangel, who did a fine job pitching and notched 4 RBI’s and a double.
