The balls were not bouncing in favor of the Cicero Rattlers as they faced their friends from the Winter Drifters on Saturday night.
On this night of circus baseball, however, the Drifters would hit the wall more often and get more bounces their way as they bested the undefeated Rattlers. The Drifters made a number of solid plays on defense that made the difference, ending innings with multiple runners for Cicero frequently left on base.
Hits on the night for the Rattlers came from Thelen (4), Capp (4), Matthews (4), Gunnip (4), Bombard (2), Capece (2) and Rumpel (1).
Robberies on the night were delivered to Capece, Capp and Gunnip for bombs that were denied the back wall by the ceiling net.
As they faced the final minutes on the clock, the Rattlers were determined to stymie the shutout. Nicholas Capece led the final inning off with a single. Ethan Matthews then moved Capece to 2nd base. With one out, Jadien Gunnip hit a blast for a 2-run dinger.
With the score now at 9-2 and under a minute left on the clock, Lucas Thelen singled on a hard-hit line drive. Daniel Capp would follow with a trio of ceiling-net foul balls to end the game.
