Cicero met up with Syracuse at Meacham Field on a chilly Sunday afternoon.

This game was highly anticipated after two close games, which included an exciting, 9-inning, 3-hour nail-biter a week earlier that ended in favor of Syracuse after Syracuse broke away from an 8-8 tie to win it 12-9.

Unfortunately for Cicero, they struggled on this day and couldn’t recover from a blow-out inning.

Starting pitcher for Cicero was Ethan Matthews. He gave up 3 runs in 2 innings.

Lucas Thelen followed Matthews, giving up 6 runs in 1 inning. Thelen gave up some hits, but was also burdened with a handful of costly errors from his teammates.

Nicholas Capece followed Thelen on the mound. He frustrated the Syracuse offense by striking out 9 batters in 4 innings while giving up only 1 run and 1 hit.

Syracuse stifled Cicero, limiting them to only 1 hit and a handful of walks on the day.

The only hit on the night for Cicero’s offense came from Dylan Bertollini, who hit a deep ball that landed him on 2nd base. Bertollini would end up being the only run to score for Cicero.

Game MVP: Dylan Bertollini for his deep hit, score and a play from 3B for an out.

Team quote for the day: “Making mistakes is part of the game. It’s how you come back from mistakes that matters. Recognize it. Admit it. Learn from it. Forget it.”
