The Rattlers met up with SRS on Saturday morning at Clay Park Central.
Both teams met a few weeks ago in an exciting game that ended with a Rattlers comeback rally.
Starting on the mound for the Rattlers on this day was Lucas Thelen. He was followed by Connor Pearce, Jacob Calabria, Ethan Matthews, Ryan Walker and Dylan Bertollini. Not only were the Rattlers able to play 6 different pitchers, but they also played 4 catchers (Cochran, Capp, Sadowski and Walker).
SRS struck first by scoring one run in the second inning. They followed with 2 runs in the 3rd inning. Cicero was held to zero runs and 6 batters were struck out by the end of the 3rd. Only Thelen and Matthews reached base by walking.
The first player to score for the Rattlers was Nicholas Capece in the 4th inning. He reached base on a walk, stole second base and then scored on a single by Lucas Thelen. Bertollini followed by getting hit by a pitch. Ryan Walker followed with a single and walks by Matthews, Cochran, Capp and Bombard put players on base. Additional scores came from Thelen, Bertollini, Walker and Cochran to put the Rattlers ahead 5-3. SRS was held scoreless in the 4th.
SRS brought in 5 runs in the 5th inning off of 4 walks, an overthrow, 2 errors and 1 hit, giving them an 8-5 lead.
The Rattlers struck back in the 5th inning. Calabria drew a walk to start and then stole his way to 3rd base while Capece worked his way to a 2-2 count. Capece then hit in Calabria with a single to make the score 8-6, SRS.
Thelen followed by launching a deep triple that scored Capece from first base to make the score 8-7, SRS. Walker walked and then KJ Cochran brought Thelen in from 3rd base to make the score 8-8. Walker eventually came in off of a single by Daniel Capp before the inning ended. This put the score at 9-8, Rattlers.
Ryan Walker started on the mound for the 6th inning. He faced 3 batters – 1 walked, the second hit into a double-play and the third struck out. The Rattlers extended their lead in the inning off of walks by Bombard, Clary and Bertollini, a double by Calabria, and RBI’s by Thelen and Pearce – which put the score at 12-8, Rattlers.
SRS had one last chance in the top of the 7th inning. They started off with a single. Seconds later, the runner was picked off at 1st base with Bertollini (P) throwing to Thelen (1B) for the tag. The next batter was walked and then stole 2nd base. The third batter hit a deep ball to center field, where Bombard made a running catch and then threw it to 2nd base to for the double play on the runner who did not tag-up. The game ended on the double-play.
