The usually high-powered Cicero Rattlers offense just couldn’t bring the runs in while playing in the Sports Center arena on Saturday night.
Cicero had a number of hard hits and deep fly balls – but many were hit directly to defensive players who made the catch or play. Multiple players were left on base in several innings that stalled. Hits for Cicero came from Carmona (1), Cochran (3), Thelen (4), and Bombard (1).
There were several good plays on defense, including multiple put-outs by Cochran and Capece at shortstop, Capece at 3rd, Mooney and Thelen at 1st and Conor Downer at 2nd, and Cochran and Thelen from the outfield.
Unfortunately, the Sports Zone team racked up runs, thanks to several home runs and about a dozen shots into the pitching screen for automatic singles. That’s not to say that the SZ squad didn’t have their fair share of solid singles, but the dingers and screeners helped run up the score and keep their innings alive.
This was the last game of the 2nd indoor season. The Rattlers now move on to the final winter session. While it is player-pitch and shares many of the same rules, it includes a few more – such as every batter starting off with a 1-1 count.
Quote for this game: Show me a guy who’s afraid to look bad, and I’ll show you a guy you can beat every time.
