Cicero closed out their first indoor season with some hits and exciting plays on Saturday night in the Sport Center 481 Arena.
They faced an experienced Sports Zone North team who hit the ball at will and put up 5 home runs on the night, including grand-slams.
Cicero struggled at the plate, putting just 14 balls into play. Three players accounted for the 4 hits on this night – Michael Mooney got 2 hits, extending his hit streak by putting up a hit in every game. Alysa Mooney and Landon Coyle each added one.
Balls were also put into play by Jackson Fudge, Nicholas Capece, and Jayden Wilmot.
On defense, Cicero worked out some early errors and got into synch as they fielded a hard-hitting Sport Zone Academy North squad. There were several solid plays on defense to get the crowd excited.
Jackson Fudge jumped in front of a hard hit at 3rd base and made the long throw for an out.
Nicholas Capece made a great grab at shortstop, pulling in a bouncing rocket of a hit and sending it to Michael Mooney at 1st base for the out.
Michael Mooney also made a snow-cone catch off a ground ball hop at first base and hustled for the solo out.
Sean Bombard fielded a smoking ground ball that almost knocked his glove off – and made a quick throw to Landon Coyle at 2nd base just in time for the out.
Carson Lear made an impressive play from right field, charging a line drive and making a quick strike off the bounce to catch the runner at first base.
Alysa Mooney made an exciting catch in the outfield, leaping to snatch a hard-hit fly ball out of the air for an out that almost turned into a double play as she threw it in to 2nd base to catch the runner who jumped. She also had one deep hit on the night and made quick decisions in the outfield that kept runners on base. She earned herself her second MVP honors of this indoor season for an outstanding performance.
While this game is the last of the indoor season’s first session, a revamped Big Blue roster will be back and ready for action on March 2nd as they gear up for real head-to-head competition in player-pitch, 50/70 action.
